Taylor H. Sutherland
Senior Wealth Advisor
Taylor is based in Halbert Hargrove’s San Diego office. His wide-ranging responsibilities include: working with individuals and families in developing financial goals and creating long-range planning; providing investment management and guidance as a member of HH’s Investment Committee; and contributing to HH’s consulting practice. Taylor also co-authors HH’s Quarterly Insights letter.
One of the ways Taylor makes a difference for many clients is in helping them “stay grounded in focusing on appropriate long-term benchmarks of financial success.” He says he values the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on their comfort and peace of mind in terms of their financial well-being.
Taylor has worked in the investment profession for more than a decade. Before joining HH in 2012, he was a Vice President at Stifel Nicolaus in Florham Park, NJ. Taylor’s responsibilities there included investment due diligence, selection and monitoring, as well as client portfolio management and implementation. Prior to Stifel, Taylor worked for Fisher Investments as well as Arthur Andersen, one of the original Big Five consulting firms.
He earned his B.A. in Mass Communication from UC Berkeley in 1998. In 2006, through the University of Pennsylvania at Wharton, he earned the CERTIFIED INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT ANALYST ® designation sponsored by the Investment Management Consultants Association. Taylor is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and was awarded the ACCREDITED INVESTMENT FIDUCIARY™ designation by the University of Pittsburgh-affiliated Center for Fiduciary Studies.
Taylor volunteers as a Director on the Foundation Board of Cal State San Marcos. He and his wife Nicole are raising three daughters; he coaches their soccer and lacrosse teams, and enjoys spending time exploring San Diego with them. He also loves exploring San Diego’s famed micro-breweries—and he’s never met a burrito he didn’t like.
