Elise Muhawi honored with the 2008 James R. Meindl Student Leadership Award
Elise Muhawi, grew up in the Los Angeles area and moved to San Marcos in 2003 to attend
school at Cal State University San Marcos. She has been studying here for the past
five years and will graduate this semester with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Service
Sector Management as well as a minor in Psychology. During her time here, Elise has
been very active in the college community serving as Treasurer for the Pre-Law society
as well as VP of Membership and VP of Administration for one of the college’s business
fraternities, Alpha Kappa Psi.
She has also worked closely with some of her professors to help plan events that served
to further the involvement of students in the college community. Her vision was to
“promote opportunities for my fellow students to get involved in the campus community
and increase their awareness of how getting involved can be extremely beneficial for
their college careers and their future.” In 2007, Elise was also selected to the
prestigious CLIMB Executive Mentoring Program where she acquitted herself very well
and learned how to network effectively.
She has also been working as an intern in the Communications Department at the Port
of San Diego where she has been involved in a variety of tasks including writing press
releases on behalf of the Port. She is now working closely with the owner of three
San Diego based companies on a range of marketing tasks for him and his companies,
which serve the wireless communications, banking, and oil industries.
