For Family/Friends
It's not always easy to send your loved one away for college. Will anyone be able to help them if they need it? Who can I contact to provide me with support? Is there any way I can better support my college-aged student in their collegiate journey? The Cougar Care Network is here for family and friends, too!
Family and friends are welcome to call the Cougar Care Network office whenever they are concerned about their student. They can request that a case manager reach out to their student, or they can simply consult about how to handle a situation regarding their student. We can be reached at (760)750-7627 or at ccn@csusm.edu.
Please be advised: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), also known as the Buckley Amendment, is a federal law that regulates the privacy of student records. FERPA applies to all educational institutions that receive Department of Education funds, and thus, applies to public and private colleges and universities alike. Rights assigned to parents in K-12 education transition to students once students enroll in higher education, regardless of the student's age. Therefore, no one within the Cougar Care Network can share any of the student's information such as their grades, class schedule or financial information without the student's written permission. However, they can share general information about university policies and departments with you. Feel free to ask any of us for clarification on FERPA and how it can impact you and/or your student.
