Crash the Cougar is the official mascot of CSUSM — a spirited ambassador embodying the energy, inclusivity, and pride of the Cougar community.
About Crash:
- Spirit Blue — reflecting campus energy and momentum
- Wears #89 — honoring CSUSM's founding in 1989
- Gender non-conforming — representing an inclusive Cougar community
- Embodies the idea that everyone belongs at CSUSM
Use for event appearances, athletics, school spirit, campus life and community celebrations.
Important:
Crash and its likeness must be approved by CSUSM Athletics and the Office of Communications prior to use.
Illustrated Crash
Illustrated Crash may appear in a variety of approved poses. Always use official, authorized artwork from University Communications — never recreate or alter.
Use for campus announcements, internal events, holiday greetings, stickers and merchandise.
Spirit Cougar Head and Banner
A high-recognition spirit mark for university-wide groups and official campus recreation sports clubs. Requires approval before use.
Use for university-wide affinity groups (e.g., Alumni Association), time-bound cohorts (e.g., Class of 2026) and official campus recreation sports clubs.
Spirit CSUSM Initials and Banner
An alternate spirit banner using the CSUSM initials mark. Same use guidelines as the Cougar Head & Banner — approval required.
Use for university-wide affinity groups (e.g., Alumni Association), time-bound cohorts (e.g., Class of 2026) and official campus recreation sports clubs.
Spirit Cougar Head
A supporting graphic element — not a standalone logo. Do not use to create new logos or unofficial marks; should not be modified, redrawn, recolored, or recreated.
Use for stickers, merchandise, spirit wear, social media graphics and environmental signage accents.

A design element — not a logo. Use to add visual energy and reinforce Cougar pride. Always complements, never defines.
