myCSUSMMedia Relations
University Communications is CSUSM’s liaison for all media requests. Our team issues media releases, assists with media coverage and handles the university’s strategic communications. We also help publicize news coverage that has a university connection.
What We Do
Our goal is to facilitate coverage by all news outlets, including print, online, radio and TV. Not all stories will garner media interest, but some may be featured on NewsCenter or CSUSM social media platforms.
Our office is continually building relationships with local, state and national media in addition to responding to media inquiries. If you are contacted by a reporter, refer them to University Communications. We will serve as your liaison and work with the reporter to facilitate any interviews.
We also proactively pitch stories to the media.
Consider the following before submitting a story idea:
- Is there a source who can speak about the subject?
- Will that person be easily reachable and willing to speak?
- Is there a compelling person at the center of the story?
- For broadcast and social media, are there visual elements to be shown?
- Will the story appeal to a broad audience?
Sharing Information
We encourage you to share information so we can determine newsworthiness. Please note that we can’t guarantee the use of submissions.
To submit items for consideration, please submit your story idea and include a clear subject line along with clear and concise information about your event or story suggestion. Be sure to include the “who, what, when, where and why.” Requests should be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
