myCSUSMInstructions for Letters of Recommendation
McNair candidates are required to submit two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a CSUSM faculty/staff member or a faculty/staff member from another university or college.
- Student applicants will be asked to list the Name and Email of their designated letter of recommendations writer in the application form.
- Letter writers will be sent an email from CTREE with instructions on submitting their letter of recommendation.
If you will be submitting a letter of recommendation for a student, please be sure to minimally address the following areas in your letter:
- In what capacity do you know the student
- How long have you known the student
- Assessment of student's:
- Intellectual potential and critical thinking skills
- Responsibility, reliability, and time‑management
- Motivation for pursuing advanced study
