Orientation Team

The Orientation Team (O-Team) is responsible for welcoming new students and their families to the CSUSM community and providing a positive Orientation experience for the new members of our CSUSM community through assisting with the implementation of Orientation sessions. New Student & Family Programs selects a team of volunteer student leaders to serve on the O-Team each year. Scroll down for information on how to apply!

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in at least 9 units at CSUSM
  • Maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of at least 2.50
  • Be in good standing with the university
  • Cannot be graduating the Spring prior to your first Summer serving on the team

UPDATE: The O-Team Application deadline has been extended to Monday, November 11, at 11:59pm! If you missed the priority deadline, there is still time to apply! Individual interviews will also be extended until Friday, November 22.

Friday, October 11, 2019: Applications Open

Sunday, November 3, 2019 (11:59pm): Priority Deadline

Monday, November 11, 2019 (11:59pm): Final Deadline

Monday, November 18, 2019: Professional Reference Form Due

Monday, November 4, 2019 - Friday, November 15, 2019: Individual Interviews

Meet & Greets

Stop by one of our upcoming Meet & Greets to meet current Orientation Team Leaders and learn more about the Orientation Team and application process! Light refreshments will be provided. 

Thursday, October 17th, 12:00-12:50pm (U-Hour) in the Student Life & Leadership office (USU 3600)

Thursday, October 24th, 8:30-9:30am in the University Student Union Commuter Lounge

Wednesday, October 30th, 4:00-5:00pm in the QUAD Tukwut Classroom

Application Checklist

To complete your application, follow the steps below:

1) Complete and submit the New Orientation Team Leader Application (Final Deadline November 11, 2019)

2) Schedule an Individual Interview (Due along with New Orientation Team Leader Application in Step 1)

3) Ask a professional reference to complete and submit the New Orientation Team Leader Professional Reference Form (Due by November 18, 2019). Your professional reference could be a supervisor from a past or current job, a professor, a mentor or advisor, a coach, or anyone else who can speak to your experience, skills, and potential to succeed in this position. If you have questions about who is an appropriate reference, feel free to contact us. 

4) Participate in a Group Interview (our team will contact you to schedule your group interview after you have completed Steps 1 and 2)

Please note that you must finish all four of these steps to complete your application. Applicants with incomplete applications will not be considered for a position on the team.
