Business Continuity

What is Business Continuity?

Business Continuity is a collection of resources, actions, procedures and information that is developed, tested, and held in readiness for use in the event of a major disruption of business operations. How the University and its academic, operational, and auxiliary departments will continue functioning when normal operating procedures are not possible.

Examples of disruptive events:

  • Earthquakes
  • Fires
  • Floods
  • Building Damages
  • Sudden Personnel Changes
  • Power Outages
  • Facilities Outages
  • Network Errors
  • Cyberattacks
  • Pandemics

Business Continuity Plans

At California State University San Marcos, we use the continuity planning software, Kuali Ready. Kuali Ready was created specifically by higher education for higher education business continuity planning. This software allows plan managers to easily build a business continuity plan by following Kuali Ready's guided prompts and user-friendly interface. Once the business continuity plan is complete and current, we will review the plan for any updates annually, as well as test the business continuity plan for areas for improvement through a tabletop exercise.
