Financial Support

Emergency Funding, Utility Assistance, and Student Discounts

On-Campus Funding

  • Financial Aid: Students are encouraged to reach out to Financial Aid to assess whether there are any additional funds as needed. Schedule an appointment with Financial Aid or call (760)750-4850 between 9 am - 2 pm.
  • ASI Student Emergency Fund: $350 is available to currently enrolled CSUSM students who encounter an unexpected financial emergency or catastrophic event in which their basic needs and/or ability to function as a student are impacted.  
  • SHCS Health Assistance Fund: A fund to help students access mental and medical health services needed to support their well-being and academic success.

Loans

  • Financial Aid: Students are encouraged to reach out to Financial Aid to assess whether there are any additional funds as needed. Schedule an appointment here.  Or call (760) 750-4850 between 9am-2pm. 
  • Student Short-Term Loans: Students can borrow up to a maximum of $500 when unique or unexpected expenses occur.; loans must be repaid in eight (8) weeks. Students with outstanding balances are ineligible to apply. 
  • Student Loan Forgiveness: Students can apply for potential loan forgiveness, if qualified.

Scholarships

Mortgage & Rent Assistance

  • Mortgage Relief Program: Aids homeowners who have fallen behind on their payments. 
  • Security Deposit Assistance Program (SDAP): Provides one-time payment assistance for renters unable to pay a security deposit. 
  • Interfaith Community Services (Carlsbad, Oceanside & Escondido) offer emergency rental or mortgage aid. You can call or walk-in for assistance.
  • 211 San Diego is a county resource and information hub that connects people with housing, utilities, food, health, and other resources. Dial 211 to speak with a customer support representative who will help callers search for services or search 211 online for resources.
  • FindHelp.org provides information about financial assistance, food pantries, medical care, etc. 

Utility Assistance

  • Customers that are enrolled in the CARE program receive a 30-35% discount on their electric bill and 20% discount on their natural gas bill.  
  • AT&T Access Program: Low-cost internet service if eligible.  
  • SDG&E Utility Assistance Programs: Call (800) 411-7343 Neighbor to Neighbor Program 
  • Gas Assistance Fund: May be able to provide a one-time grant for the gas bill under $100, if qualified. 
  • The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides up to $30 discount on monthly internet services and a one-time discount of $100 for a computer or tablet. Those who receive government assistance or whose income falls below 200% of the federal poverty line are eligible.  Students with Pell Grants, CalFresh, WIC, or SNAP (CalFresh) also qualify. 
  • Cox Internet: Discounted programs available for those who qualify, similar to above.

  • FindHelp.org provides information about financial assistance, food pantries, medical care, etc.
  • Care Credit Card - CareCredit is a health and wellness credit card with flexible financing options so you can pay overtime for care you want or need. Accepted at over 260,000+ locations.
