- Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides basic medical care as well as individual and group counseling and workshops. Request a medical appointment. For counseling, the first step is to schedule an initial phone consultation by calling (760) 750-4915. 24-hour counselor assistance via phone also available.
- CSUSM SHCS group therapy and coping skills workshops: Free 50-minute workshops & a variety of group therapy.
- CSUSM Mental Health - Focused Events - Student Health and Counseling's HOPE and Wellness Center puts on mental health focused events weekly. Check the link for their upcoming programs and events.

Off-Campus Mental Health and Support Services
- Sentio Counseling Center offers online therapy on a sliding scale starting at $30 per session.
- Urban Restoration Counseling Center offers Therapy for All where you can attend up to 15 sessions for FREE with interns (ASW/AMFT) then $40 per session after that.
- National Maternal Mental Health Line - 1(833)TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) - The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline provides 24/7, free, confidential support before, during, and after pregnancy.
- Palomar Health Crisis Stabilization Unit in Escondido is a short-term facility that can help with crisis intervention support such as suicidal ideation. Walk-in or call Intake Line at (760) 739-3012.
- Exodus North Coastal Crisis Stabilization Unit- off-campus program that provides crisis services, including medication evaluation and management in an outpatient setting (less than 24 hours). Takes all individuals regardless of whether insured due to county funding.
- Exodus Vista Crisis Stabilization Unit – Off campus program that provides crisis services, including medication evaluation and management in an outpatient setting (less than 24 hours). Takes all individuals regardless of whether insured due to funding county.
- One Safe Place – off campus resource that provides comprehensive support services for anyone who has experienced child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, hate crime, violent loss, family abuse or victimization.

- Birth Choice of San Marcos is a non-profit pregnancy care center that offers reproductive and sexual health services, all 100% FREE. Pregnancy Verification, Adoption, Sexual Health Education, etc. (Please be aware: this is a pro-life organization)

Grief Support
- Elizabeth Hospice provides grief counseling and groups for individuals in San Diego and Southwest Riverside counties who have lost a loved one.
- Survivors of Suicide Loss: Provides individual/group support for those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Health-Related Insurance and Assistance
- BenefitsCal Students can apply for food, cash, and health coverage benefits. Get assistance with applying for BenefitsCal. A county representative is available on Tuesdays from 10am-2pm at the ASI Cougar Pantry and virtually on Wednesdays.
- Covered California and Medi-Cal Insurance Information and Application - Free and subsidized health insurance for eligible individuals and families. Apply for Medi-Cal online, by calling 2-1-1, or get assistance with Covered California and Medi-Cal while on-campus.
- TrueCare Insurance Assistance helps you complete Medi-Cal or other insurance applications. Call (760) 736-6734 to schedule an appointment with one of their friendly Program & Resource Specialists.
- CancerCare: Financial assistance is available by calling (800) 813-HOPE (4673).
- Mama’s Kitchen: Provides San Diego County residents, who have any type of cancer which impairs their mental and/or physical capacity to prepare food, with free meals.
- Jacob’s House: Provides help (such as lodging in Temecula Valley, food, support, etc) for those who need to be away from home while their loved ones are hospitalized.
- National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) offers screening, resources, and treatment connections.
Low-Cost Medical Clinics
All offer primary care, mental health, dental, & more. They accept Medi-Cal & have a low income sliding fee scale for those without insurance. Telehealth appointments also available.
- Borrego Health - Located in El Cajon & Escondido
- Family Health Centers of San Diego is located primarily in southern San Diego. Also offers substance abuse aid; mental health wait may be 3-4 months.
- Vista Community Clinic is located in Vista, Oceanside, & Lake Elsinore. Also offers optometry. Doctor visits start at $40. Dental can range $50-$100 but they do not offer crowns, implants, root canals, or braces. They offer limited extractions. Call (844) 308-5003 to make an appointment in English or Spanish.
Disability Assistance
- CSUSM Disability Support Services
- California Children’s Services (CCS) is a statewide program that helps children and young adults under 21 years of age who have certain physical limitations, chronic health conditions or diseases. They may be able to help with medical services and equipment, if you qualify.
- San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. provides free civil legal services to disadvantaged families, seniors, persons with disabilities, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and domestic violence survivors in San Diego County.

- In-Home Supportive Services - The IHSS Program provides funding to elderly or disabled Californians to pay for services to take place in their personal homes or places of residence (i.e., payment for family caregivers, adjustments to the home, etc.). State policymakers designed the program to prevent the unnecessary placement of individuals in Medicaid (Medi-Cal) funded nursing homes.
For DISABILITY/PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT/TESTING (such as ADHD/Autism/NeuroPsych evaluations) to assist with class accommodations at CSUSM, etc.:
- San Diego BrainWorks may accept some insurance plans such as Medicare and Tricare or can provide a Superbill for reimbursement for out-of-network providers. Located in San Diego and Temecula. Call 858-914-1347
- San Diego Center for Children Family Wellness/Outpatient Center in San Diego that provides assessments out of pocket that range from $500 to $1500.
Be aware that psychological testing can be costly and some students consider seeking help from the CSUSM SHCS Health Assistance Fund.

- San Diego Alcoholics Anonymous & San Diego Narcotics Anonymous: local meeting information.
- Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): (800) 662-HELP (4357) or TTY: (800) 487-4889 is an information service, in English & Spanish, for those facing mental &/or substance use disorders. Provides referrals to local treatment, support groups, & community organizations.
- Brother Benno’s in Oceanside offers a 26-week Recovery Training Program for men & women who hope to stop drinking or using drugs.
