CR/NC Grading Accepted by Program

Academic Year 2020-2021

Below is a description of what courses may be taken with CR/NC grading basis, by major for Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021. 

  • All lower division and non-major courses (upper and lower division) are approved to accept CR grades, with one exception for Nursing (see table below)
  • All F grades, regardless of level, will be changed to NC automatically at the end of the semester 

To determine if your upper division major class this semester will accept a grade of CR, locate your major in the table below and view the list of eligible courses and/or notes. Click on these links to view classes in your minor or graduate program.  

List of Major Programs

  • American Indian Studies
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Anthropology
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Art, Media, and Design
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Biochemistry
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Biological Sciences

    Permitted

    • Any course taken to complete a GE requirement or university graduation requirement (that does not also fulfill an upper division major requirement) may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
    • Any lower division major course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis; this includes BIOL 200-level, CHEM 150/150L, CHEM 160, CHEM 201/201L, MATH 160, PHYS 101, PHYS 102, PHYS 205, PHYS 206

     Not Permitted

    • No upper division major classes may be taken CR/NC; this includes BIOL 351 and above, CS 311, CHEM 341, CHEM 351, CHEM 401, CHEM 404, MATH 362, MATH 374, MATH 441

  • Biotechnology

    Permitted

    • Any course taken to complete a GE requirement or university graduation requirement (that does not also fulfill an upper division major requirement) may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
    • Any lower division major course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis; this includes BIOL 200-level, CHEM 150/150L, CHEM 160, CHEM 201/201L, MATH 132, PHYS 101, PHYS 102, PHYS 205, PHYS 206, PSYC 100, ACCT 201, ACCT 202

     Not Permitted

    • No upper division major classes may be taken with CR/NC grading basis; this includes BIOT 355 and above, BIOL 351 and above, CHEM 341, CHEM 351, MGMT 302, MGMT 452, MIS 302, MKTG 302, OM 305, OM 406, OM 428, OM, 441, OM 442

  • Business Administration

    Permitted

    • Any course taken to complete a GE requirement or university graduation requirement (that does not also fulfill an upper division major requirement) may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
    • Any lower division major course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis; this includes ACCT 201, ACCT 202, BUS 202, BUS 203, BUS 204, MATH 132, ECON 201, ECON 202
    • The following upper division major courses may be taken with CR/NC grading basis: Any 300-400 level ENTR course, any 300-400 level GBM course, any 300-400 level MKTG course, any 300-400 level MGMT course, BUS 442, BUS 444, ECON 301, ECON 302, ECON 303

    Not Permitted

    • The following upper division major courses may not be taken with CR/NC grading basis: any 300-400 level ACCT, FIN, MIS, OM class, as well as BUS 300, BUS 302, BUS 322, BUS 324, BUS 495

     

    Note for Pre-Business students: for purposes of the Business application, a limit of 2 CR grades will be excluded from the GPA calculation for your core Business coursework. Any additional CR grades will be calculated as a grade of "C" (2.0)

  • Chemistry
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Child and Adolescent Development
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Communication
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Computer Science
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Criminology and Justice Studies
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Economics
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Electrical Engineering

    Permitted

    • Any course taken to complete a GE requirement or university graduation requirement (that does not also fulfill a major requirement) may be taken with CR/NC grading basis

     Not Permitted

    • The following courses may not be taken with CR/NC grading basis: EE 180-1, EE 180-2, EE 280

  • Environmental Studies
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Ethnic Studies
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Global Studies

    Permitted

    • Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis, with one exception (listed below)

    Not Permitted 

    • GBST 400
  • History
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Human Development
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Kinesiology
    Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis
  • Liberal Studies

    Permitted

    • Any course may be taken with CR/NC grading basis, with two exceptions (listed below)

     Not Permitted (for Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and Elementary Subject Option)

    • The following major courses may not be taken with CR/NC grading basis: EDUC 350 and EDUC 364

     

    Note for any student, regardless of major/option, who is considering the Credential program: a grade of CR will not be accepted to meet pre-requisite requirements in EDUC 350, 364, 422

  • Mathematics

  • Nursing

    Permitted

    • Any course taken to complete a GE requirement or university graduation requirement (that does not also fulfill a major requirement) may be taken with CR/NC grading basis

    • No courses with the NURS pre-fix may be taken CR/NC
  • Physics (Applied)
