Drop-in Advising

Drop-in Advising is available to matriculated undergraduate students for 1:1 academic advising on general degree requirement information, schedule verification or issues, registration questions, etc. They can be conducted in-person, virtually via MS Teams, or by phone. We offer Drop-ins during the add/drop period (first two weeks of the fall and spring semesters) and during enrollment periods (usually April and November). If today is not a Drop-in Advising day, please utilize one of our other Academic Advising Services.

How to Get the Most Out of Drop-In Advising
  • Expect longer wait times. To get the most out of your visit, plan to attend drop-in hours close to your enrollment date/time. That’s when we can best help with real-time course availability and immediate needs.
  • We strongly recommend virtual drop-ins. Meeting virtually allows us to assist more students efficiently and helps reduce overall wait times during this busy season.
  • Avoid coming too early. Course options often change before your enrollment date, which can make early advising sessions less productive.
  • Enroll in classes on your enrollment date. Please attempt to enroll in courses before attending drop-ins so we can provide the most effective assistance.
  • Already enrolled? Once you’ve registered for your courses, you likely won’t need to attend drop-ins. Start by reviewing your Degree Planner, and reach out only if new questions come up or issues arise with your schedule.

Guidelines & Signing-in

  • Drop-in Guidelines

Format: Drop-ins can be conducted in person, by phone, or virtually via Microsoft Teams. Virtual and phone sessions often have shorter wait times. See "How to Sign In..." for details on using Microsoft Teams.

Check-in: Students may sign in up to one hour before the start of Drop-in Advising (8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) either online using the Virtual Sign-in Sheet or in person at ADMIN 1300.

Appointments: No appointment is necessary. Scheduled appointments are not available during Drop-in periods.

Process: Students are seen one-on-one, first-come, first-served, by major.

Capacity: Due to high demand, Drop-in Advising may close early. The first week is typically the busiest.

Timing: To reduce wait times, attend as close to your assigned enrollment date as possible.

Duration: Sessions generally last up to 15 minutes. For longer discussions, please schedule an appointment outside of Drop-in periods.

Note: Drop-in hours are subject to change.
