Student Conduct & Ethical Development

CSUSM is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Student Conduct & Ethical Development partners with students, families, and faculty to uphold the values of responsibility, accountability, and care for others.

Whether you are navigating the conduct process, seeking guidance as a supporter of a student, or reporting a concern, we are here to help you understand your rights, responsibilities, and the resources available to support your success. Students referred for alleged violations of the Standards for Student Conduct can expect a setting that fosters education while focusing on ethical development.

Learning Outcomes for Students

The student conduct process is designed to be educational, equitable, and restorative. Students involved in cases will:

  • Understand and articulate how their behavior and expectations outlined in the CSU Standards for Student Conduct may impact their educational career.
  • Articulate the reasoning behind their decisions that led to potential policy violation(s) and referral to Student Conduct & Ethical Development.
  • Understand and identify how their behavior has a larger impact on the CSUSM campus community.
  • Develop their ability to reflect on and learn from their behavior to make better, more informed decisions in the future.
  • Understand and articulate that the CSU Standards for Student Conduct support the health, safety, and overall well-being of the University community.
