Demiana Hanna, SI Mentor

Demiana is a fourth-year student majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She is in Dr. Jay's Lab, where she studies the structure and function of proteins involved in the formation of bacterial curli. Demiana is also the Vice President of Unheard Cries, a philanthropic club that aims to provide humanitarian support, raise awareness, and allocate resources to underserved communities in the Middle East. Passionate about medicine and service, Demiana aspires to become a pediatric emergency medicine physician. In her free time, she enjoys running, going to the gym, or spending time with her family.

Nessa is a master's student in the biological science program. She works in Dr. James Kezos' Drosophila lab and will be investigating which neurons influence the pacemaker region of the heart. Outside of school, she has two playful pups that she spends most of her time with.

I am currently a post-baccalaureate student at CSUSM, working towards admission to medical school. I received a B.S. in Kinesiology with a minor in Nutrition from the University of Utah and love anything that has to do with movement. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, knitting, baking, and experimenting with new recipes. I also love trying new restaurants and coffee shops around the area!

After graduating this spring, she plans to pursue a Master's in Public Health with a focus on community-based health promotion. She also hopes to explore global health and volunteer abroad with the UN someday. In her free time, Rayne enjoys reading, sleeping, junk journalling/scrapbooking, playing video games, and spending time with her partner and friends.

Gia is a second-year student majoring in Biotechnology. Currently, she is also the secretary of the Biotechnology Org, which creates opportunities for students to collaborate with professionals across a variety of rapidly growing fields within the Biotechnology industry. With this, she has found interest in careers in Research & Development and Data & Bioinformatics. In her free time, she enjoys engaging in creative and active environments, such as the outdoors and concerts.

My name is Kayla Wrathall. I am a fourth year majoring in Biotech and minoring in Psychology and Chemistry. I want to go to medical school to become an Emergency Room doc. This is my first semester as an SI, but I have been tutoring at the STEM Success Center for six semesters and was a Learning Assistant for CHEM 150 during the fall and spring semesters of 2023. I LOVE running and am on the cross country and track team at CSUSM. During my free time, I like to go to coffee shops, play my guitar, and be outside in nature. I’m looking forward to a great semester!

Hello! My name is Zeke Hernandez, and I'm a premedical student pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology, a minor in chemistry, and a minor in biology. Along with pursuing my studies, I'm also a research assistant in the Multicultural Brain and Research Center at CSUSM. When I'm in the mood to exercise, I enjoy surfing in Encinitas, rock climbing with friends, hiking to waterfalls, and working out at the gym. I also love to watch the same 3 TV shows on repeat, binge rom-coms, and play Overwatch or Marvel Rivals into the deep hours of the night. Join me for SI!
