Upward Bound (UB) is a college preparation program designed to assist 9–12th grade students to graduate from high school and attend the college of their choice. UB serves high school students from low-income families and from families in which
neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. Participation in UB is year round (academic
year + summer) throughout your high school journey. CSUSM TRIO UB serves 75 participants
from 2 high schools in the city of Escondido (Escondido HS and Orange Glen HS).
UB is a federally-funded TRIO grant program through the U.S. Department of Education.
This program emerged out of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to assist underrepresented
students to achieve their postsecondary education goals. There are over 70,000 Upward Bound students being served, from over 900 UB programs nationally in the United States.
