Policies that Guide Us

Our community flourishes when it is built on respect, accountability, and care. These are some of the policies and protocols designed protect the health, safety, well-being, and academic pursuits of the CSUSM Community:

Policies and Descriptions
Policy	Description
Standards for Student Conduct	These CSU wide policies describe the grounds under which discipline can be based, including an umbrella statement which includes all other university specific policies.
CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy	These policies are designed to address behavior identified as Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Exploitation, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Stalking and Retaliation.
CSUSM Good Samaritan Protocol	This policy is designed to encourage students to call 911 for their own or another's alcohol-, drug-, or other health-related emergencies without fear of disciplinary consequences, as long as they seek help and follow the protocol. If students call for help, remain at the scene, cooperate with emergency responders, and provide accurate information; they will not face disciplinary charges related to your personal alcohol/drug use, provided they complete the assigned educational program. This protocol may be used once/semester by each student. *This policy doesn't cover extreme cases like sexual assault, hazing, or supplying the substances involved.
CSUSM Academic Integrity Policy	Upholding academic integrity ensures the quality of scholarship and value of the education students receive. This policy addresses various forms of academic misconduct.
CSUSM Drug Free Campus Policy	Illegal or unsafe use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited. We encourage responsible choices and connect students to resources for support.
Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources	All campus community members must exercise responsible, ethical behavior when using campus IT resources. Misuse has the potential to disrupt campus business and legitimate academic and research work.
Resident Handbook	These policies apply to all students living in CSUSM Residence Halls including Black Oak Hall, North Commons, The QUAD, and University Village Apartments.
Smoke and Tobacco Free Campus	This policy supports the principle of one's individual freedom to learn, teach, work, think and take part in their intellectual endeavors in a fulfilling, rewarding, safe and healthy environment
CSU Freedom of Expression/Free Speech	The CSU is committed to free expression. To support and achieve that mission, the CSU has created systemwide standards to determine the “time, place and manner” in which activities may be conducted on university property to ensure maintenance of learning environments free of disruption.
CSUSM Addendum to CSU Time. Place and Manner Policy	This CSUSM Policy outlines the time, place and manner that individuals are free to exercise lawfully their constitutional right to assemble on CSUSM property.
Public Assembly	This policy describes use of university facilities and regulations governing assembly on campus as well as enforcement.
