 Emiliza | 4th year, Communications

  • Bio

My name is Emiliza Vasquez. I am a 4th year Communication major student at CSUSM. I have been attending CSUSM for all 4 years now. It has been an amazing experience while I have attended Cal State San Marcos. I have been a part of the Recruitment & Outreach team for about 2 years now. It has been a great experience to work with this team, and to help new incoming students make their experience unforgettable!
  • Favorite Spot on Campus

One of my favorite outdoor areas that is my favorite place to be at is outside of the University Student Union (USU). It is simply an area where I can feel peace, and the comfort of all the students, and faculty that we are surrounded with. To feel the breeze or the sun in that area is just very relaxing to me. Also, because it is where lots of our events are taken place.

  • Best Memory at CSUSM

If I had to choose my favorite memory of CSUSM it would have to be all the U-Hour events that I attended with my friends. It is a perfect hour that can be fun and unforgettable with your friends.

  • Advice

Some advice that I would like to share with any incoming student is to always stay connected with your peers, professors, and resources that are provided. Reason being is because there might be a time where you might face a certain scenario, and there will always be that one person or program to help you pull through it.

  • Dream Job

I am open to any open opportunity that I come across, acknowledging that I have a very broad major. However, my dream job is to work anywhere in the media world behind the scenes.

Jazmin | Biochemistry

  • Bio

I am a Biochemistry major and during my time at Cal State San Marcos I have participated in the Pre-Health Society as well as being a tour guide for the University. I am also a PASO Scholar and part of the National Honors Collegiate Society. When I am not at work or studying, I like to go to the beach or Disneyland with my family and friends.
  • Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite spot on campus is Founder’s Plaza. Not only does it have a really good coffee cart, Campus Coffee, but it always shows me how much the University has grown. The first buildings to be on campus are those surrounding the founder’s seal, which are Craven Hall, Science Hall I, and Academic Hall. It represents the growth we continue to have as a campus and how far along we are coming.

  • Best Memory at CSUSM

My best memory is the excitement students show when coming to campus. Especially when they tell you they already got admitted and when the tour ends they tell you that they are going to commit to CSUSM.

  • Advice

Try to get involved! It helps so much with making new connections and it also helps with figuring out potential career options. Getting involved on campus such as being in a club, in greek life, sports, and so on will also make your college experience more memorable. If you want a job that is involving your major the University offers virtual career fairs that’ll have employers seeking for students in a specific department.

  • Dream Job

I want to work with students. My dream job is to teach Chemistry and continue doing research in the industry.

Jessica | 3rd year, Human Development

  • Bio

I am a first generation undergraduate student from The San Fernando

Valley. This will be my third year at California State University San Marcos where I'm majoring in Human Development with hopes of seeking a career in counselling. I've volunteered at the admissions office on campus and I'm also a tour guide for the university.

  • Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite spot on campus is Kellogg Library because of all the study space and resources available such as computer labs, printing, and much more.
  • Best Memory at CSUSM

Move-in day at the University VIllage Apartments was her best memory at CSUSM. It was a big moment for her and her family because she is the first in her family who left home to seek a higher education.

  • Advice

My best advice to prospective students is to never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. As a student it’s important to advocate for yourself and although it may be intimidating at first it can be very rewarding.
  • Dream Job

My dream job would consist of helping others on a daily basis and making a change which is why I am pursuing counseling.

Leah | Human Developement

  • Bio

I'm a current CSUSM student working to get a B.A. in Human Development, and to become a child therapist. I'm involved in being a campus tour

guide in the Department of Recruitment and Outreach.

  • Favorite Spot on Campus

Favorite spot on campus is definitely the library, I love how quiet it is and it helps me

    stay focused on my work.

  • Best Memory at CSUSM

Best CSUSM memory would be when I was a part of a summer program hosted by EOP.  I was able to connect with different students my age and that helped me begin the school year with friends I already knew and be comfortable with the campus.
  • Advice

Live life with purpose, make every decision with purpose.
  • Dream Job

Most Prized Possession
My prized possession is my MVP tennis trophy. Every time I see it, it shows that I put my all into something.

Melanie | 4th year, Communications

  • Bio

I am planning to get my B.A. in communications and then move on to a masters degree.

I'm a fourth year student and have volunteered with ASI, orientation team, campus tours and many other endeavors.

  • Favorite Spot on Campus

I would say my favorite spot on campus is Palm Court. It’s the only place on campus that has palm trees and it just looks so tropical. You forget you’re at CSUSM because it looks so beautiful and peaceful. There’s also outdoor seating, so you can always do your homework there or catch up with a friend.

  • Best Memory at CSUSM

My favorite CSUSM memory is when I got recruited for the HYPE team, which is part of ASI (student body). HYPE stands for highlighting your programs and events and it’s basically the behind the scenes of every campus event. It’s the first time I really put myself out there and I thought I wasn’t going to be recruited, but I was and that really boosted my confidence.

  • Advice

When looking at college from an outside perspective it can be very intimidating. You start to doubt yourself, but just know you can do it. You might think the hard part is the application process, but the hardest part is staying motivated to finish strong. There are a lot of centers on campus to keep you motivated and accountable. The help is there on campus and trust me when you go to those centers you will get that sense of motivation back. It will remind you why you started this journey of higher education. You can do this!

  • Dream Job

My dream job would be in a job that involves marketing. For example, social media marketing or cosmetic marketing.

Ruby | 4th year, Sociology/Criminology

  • Bio

I'm a senior majoring in Sociology with a Criminology/Criminal Justice minor. I'm currently part of Greek Life and have been part of the Housing team as well while living at the dorms. I am currently preparing for graduate school applications to open so that I may continue my education.

Outside of school you can either find me painting or visiting new Cafes with friends. I'm a big fan of trying new coffee brews!
  • Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite spot on campus would have to be the study rooms at the Kellogg Library. My friends and I always end up reserving a room for study and we all bring snacks with us. We've made a lot of memories there along with getting our work done too.

  • Advice

I would say the best piece of advice I can give you is to reach out for help. The more people you reach out to for help the easier it gets putting your application together. Also, if you reach out to multiple people you get multiple perspectives on how to improve your application.

  • Dream Job

I really would like to work in higher education as a Sociology Professor. Specifically, I really enjoy research and statistics and would like to help students reach their full potential in these areas.
