Hi there, my name is Susie Martinez, and I am from Oceanside, California. One thing you will learn very quickly about me is that I like to stay busy and try new things. I am often jumping from hobby to hobby. I would not call myself a professional photographer, but rather an enthusiast of capturing moments – which tend to come out nicely ;). My photography portfolio spans engagements, maternity, family, and nature. However, the photos that give me the most butterflies are astrophotography.

My ultimate goal as a photographer is to make and sell postcards. I am very much an old soul, and value receiving a hand-written letter in the mail.

I  am a CSUSM alum and a transfer student from MiraCosta College. In 2020, I attained my BA in Sociology with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, from CHABSS. I came back to the university as staff in the fall of 2021. I love being employed here, and I love the people, community, and culture. The spirit of the campus motivates me each day. In my role, I serve a variety of administrative and operational functions. I firmly believe in service that is experience-driven and people-first. I plan on returning for my master’s degree soon.

In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, camping, road-tripping, off-roading, crafting, collecting cameras and hanging with my little guy Moose, a miniature dachshund.

"Follow You in the Dark"
Art Medium: Digital Photography

What a beautiful world we live in! It takes standing in the pitch-black desert, while your senses are evoked, looking straight up at the sky to remind yourself of the small fragment we are. Stars in the sky resembling paint splatter. The Milky Way so vivid. Constellations tell you their story as you stare in wonder. These photos are just that, millions of speckles, or paint splatters, surrounding our planet. There is so much beauty in this world when we disconnect and get outside!

As the name states, I truly do follow the night sky into the dark. This photo was taken late into the night, far from the campfire, in the cold. I stand there for 25 minutes waiting as my camera records the darkness. My hands are warmed by a cup of hot chocolate as I nervously hope an animal does not creep out of the wild….
