Questions

  • What was your initial impression of the first half of the book?
  • Did reading the book impact your mood? If yes, how?
  • In browsing the table of contents, what grabbed your attention? Which 3 of the headers/titles intrigued you the most?
  • Challenge yourself to use technique #2 throughout the discussion.
  • Which strategy or strategies do you find most helpful? Have you practiced any yet? Did they help?
  • Which of these strategies are already strengths for you? After reading about them, how can you see that they are helping you?
  • Which strategy are you most excited about trying out?
  • Take turns introducing your partner to the group using technique #17 or pick another strategy that you like and try it out with your group.
  • Does the idea of using these strategies give you the feeling that you are playing a part or being manipulative or disingenuous in your interactions? How do you feel about that?
  • Do you agree that you can "read a person" in the first few seconds as the author does? Do you think this is a helpful skill or should we question these first impressions?
  • Are there any techniques you feel will be a challenge for you?
  • Have you ever intentionally engaged a Big Winner? If so, what were the circumstances and how do you feel it went?
  • If you could ask the author anything, what would it be?
