Feel free to insert the following paragraph in your syllabus resources/services section:

The Writing Center offers a welcoming learning environment where certified student consultants offer free and constructive guidance to all writers at any stage of the writing process -- idea generation, argument development, sentence-level revision, and more. The WC works through attention to the prompt and guiding questions, as students work to develop compelling texts. The WC is committed to providing non-judgmental feedback through a growth mindset philosophy. Additional services include assistance with Academic English, study space, writing workshops, and small group sessions. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can reserve an appointment by visiting www.csusm.edu/writingcenter or calling (760)-750-4168. You will find the center in KELLOGG 1103! They are open M-Th, 9-6 and F, 9-2.

Schedule Our Services!

Schedule an Information Presentation

Length:10 - 15 minutes

While being respectful of your instruction time, tutors or the center’s director can present to your class on the services and benefits of the Writing Center. With your help, we will also note a few of your assignments that pair best with our services. To request an in-class presentation on the Writing Center’s services, email writing@csusm.edu or submit a request form.

Schedule an In-Class Workshop

Length: 30-90 mins

You can select from a list of our frequently requested workshops which we will bring to your class! Students will be able to address specific issues of your choice during that time. If you would like to request a workshop not included in our  list, we will work to develop one that fits your course and your concerns. Workshop times vary and we are flexible! To request an in-class workshop, email writing@csusm.edu or submit a request form.

Schedule a Consult

Length: 30-90 mins, optional recurring

Work with our Center’s director to make your assignment prompt dreams come true! If you find too many of your students misunderstand the assignment prompt, if creating an assignment prompt causes you stress, if you want to shake up your assignment, or if have a feeling that you need a second set of eyes on a new idea--then you might enjoy a one-on-one consult. We can also discuss:

  • Meeting the All-University Writing Requirement in a way that fits your course
  • Applying best practices in assignment prompts
  • Providing feedback on student writing
  • Scheduling regular Writing Center services in your class

The Writing Center sees hundreds of prompts and thousands of students grappling with them. Let’s work together to connect instructors and students through engaging assignments!

Academic English Support

The Writing Center supports our campus’ English Learners, and we are always seeking to improve that support. At this time, we do not have an Academic English Support Specialist on staff. But we do have committed, culturally aware tutors, who commit themselves to a continual education to help support all students.
