- Search & Apply for Jobs on Handshake
How to Search for On-Campus Jobs on Handshake
- Login to Handshake as a Student with your CSUSM credentials
- Click on Jobs at the top-left
- Fill in the job search information
- Once you've found a job you're interested in - apply and attach required documents
- Submit your application
*NOTE Please contact the Financial Aid Office with questions regarding Federal Work Study (FWS)
- Create a Resume
Submit Your Resume or Cover Letter for Critique
- Login to Handshake as a Student with your CSUSM credentials
- Click the Career Center tab at the top-right
- Click Resources
- Scroll down and click Resume/CV/Cover Critique Request
- Fill out the form and submit!
- Practice Interview Resources
- Make an appointment through Handshake for a mock interview (video coming soon)
- Visit Big Interview & Big Resume to practice interviewing
- Payroll Information
*NOTE If you are not sure if you are employed by the State, Corporation or Unit 11, please check with your supervisor

- Student Employment Information
- Post a Job on Handshake
- Go to Handshake
- Click on “No account? Sign up here”
- Click on “Create an employer account”
- Make sure to use your csusm.edu email address
- Fill out the fields requested
- Click Sign Up
- Select the type of students you are interested in recruiting
- Then click “Next: Employer Guidelines”
- Click “No” when asked if you are a third-party recruiter
- Then click “Next: Confirm your email”
- After confirming your email, Handshake should prompt you to connect with your employer/company
or create a new employer/company account
- If your company is not listed then “Create New Company”
- NAMING CONVENTION INFORMATION: Follow the CSUSM naming convention: CSUSM – Department – Sub-Department (only if applicable)
- Once your company is approved, you will be able to post jobs
- Sample job description PDF -- The job description can be drafted in a variety of forms (no need to have the position classified by Human Resources. We encourage you to incorporate Career Success Skills as defined by NACE to your job descriptions.
