Student Employment
Students are eligible to work on campus during the academic year if they are enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate units or 4 graduate units.
Student employees are appointed into a classification by their departments based on:
- Enrollment Status
- Citizenship Status
- Financial Aid Status
- Nature of Work

Federal Work Study Student Assistant | 1871 | U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident; Has a federal work study award - if you are unsure if you are FWS eligible, please contact the Financial Aid Office by emailing finaid@csusm.edu |
Non-Resident Alien Student Assistant | 1868 | Non-U.S. Citizen (typically an F-1 Visa holder); Required to complete online tax compliance assessment |
Instructional Student Assistant | 1150 | Represented classification that performs academic-related work (grading,tutoring,etc.); See Office of Faculty Affairs |
Work Study Instructional Student Assistant | 1151 | Represented classification that performs academic-related work; Has a federal work study award; See Office of Faculty Affairs |
Summer Bridge Student Assistant | 1874 |
U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident; Not enrolled in summer session courses or enrolled in less than 6 undergraduate units or 4 graduate units. Able to work up to 40 hours per week, but is not eligible for overtime; Student must be enrolled at CSUSM in the prior Spring semester and enroll at least half-time at CSUSM in the following Fall semester. Mandatory enrollment in the Part-Time, Seasonal, Temporary (PST) retirement program. |
