CSUSM Annual Open Enrollment:
Mark your calendars! The CSUSM Annual Open Enrollment takes place Monday, Sep. 14 through Friday, Oct. 9, 2015. Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to review and update your current benefits for the upcoming year. You can enroll, change or cancel CalPERS health, dental, vision, Flexcash, Dependent Care Reimbursement (DCRA), Health Care Reimbursement (HCRA) or voluntary benefits plans.
All required enrollment forms must be submitted to The Office of Human Resources (OHR) no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015. OHR partners with other California State agencies such as the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and the State Controller’s Office (SCO) to process open enrollment transactions. Due to the volume of open enrollment transactions that these agencies process, they will not accept enrollment changes submitted after the deadline.

Free Health Screenings for Employees
October 6 and 7, 2015
Good health starts with good information! The Office of Human Resources is coordinating health screenings for employees through Anthem Blue Cross.
All employees are welcome to participate in screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and body mass index (BMI). Participants will also be registered for an opportunity drawing for a Visa gift card!

Wellness and Nutrition Courses
The Sharp Health Plan's Best Health team is partnering with CSU San Marcos to provide a series of presentations on Nutrition.
The presentations are open to the entire campus community. Staff, faculty and students are welcome to attend! Bring your lunch and learn more about healthy eating!

All sessions, with the exception of November, will be held in Clarke Field House, Room 110. The November 11 session will be held in the McMahon House.
Participants may sign up via the Employee Training Center (ETC) at www.csusm.edu/etc, click the "ETC Portal Login" button and log on using your campus ID and password; then click on the "Schedule" link under "My Menu" on the left-hand side of the page, click on the workshop title on the calendar and select the "Register" button located on the upper right-hand corner of the box. Upon successful registration, you will receive an enrollment confirmation email, containing all of the details of the workshop as well as a link that will add it to your Outlook calendar. Students can email email@example.com to register.
New Background Check Requirements
The CSU has developed a new system wide Background Check policy HR 2015-08 which becomes effective August 3, 2015.
The Office of Human Resources will coordinate background checks for MPPs, Staff, Non-Unit 11 student employees, Volunteers, and Special Consultants.
The Office of Faculty Affairs will coordinate background checks for Unit 3 employees and Unit 11 employees.
The UARSC Human Resources Department will coordinate background checks for Auxiliary employees.
Volunteers, Non-Unit 11 Student Employees, Special Consultants
MPP/Departments are responsible for consulting with Human Resources BEFORE recruiting/advertising for student employees or bringing on volunteers or Special Consultants. If individuals in these categories will be performing sensitive work which would subject them to background checks, they must successfully complete a background check BEFORE they are hired or begin volunteering for the university.
Please note: Departments that hire student employees are strongly encouraged to post for these positions via CougarJobs. HR is working with Career Services to ensure that the postings for sensitive student assistant positions include language regarding any required background checks.
