
Bereavement/Funeral Leave
The CSU Bereavement Leave Policy provides paid time off for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or traveling to a funeral for the employee's immediate family or close relative.
For additional guidance, including the definition of "Immediate" family and/or close relatives, please refer to the appropriate collective bargaining unit agreements and/or your HR Analyst.
Leave Eligibility/Guidelines
Employee Category | Number of Paid Days and Guidelines |

Physicians (Unit 1) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
CSUEU (Unit 2,5,7,9) | Five (5) days for an immediate family member. |
Faculty (Unit 3) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
Academic Support (Unit 4) | Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close person. |
Skilled Trades (Unit 6) | Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative or immediate family member. Restrictions appy to hourly employees. |
Public Safetly (Unit 8) | Five (5) days for an immediate family member. |
IUOE (Unit 10) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
Academic Student Employee (Unit 11) |
Two (2) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member, or three (3) days with pay if travel of over 500 miles is required. |
Confidential (C99) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
Management Personnel Plan (MPP) (M80) |
Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
Excluded (E99, Police Officer Cadet only) |
Two (2) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
All Other Excluded (E99) | Not available to employees within this employee category. |
