Bereavement/Funeral Leave
The CSU Bereavement Leave Policy provides paid time off for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or traveling to a funeral for the employee's immediate family or close relative.

Leave Eligibility/Guidelines

Physicians (Unit 1) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
CSUEU (Unit 2,5,7,9) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
Faculty (Unit 3) | Five (5) days for each death in the immediate family. |
Academic Support (Unit 4) | Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close person. |
Skilled Trades (Unit 6) | Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative or immediate family member. Restrictions appy to hourly employees. |
Public Safetly (Unit 8) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
IUOE (Unit 10) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member. |
Academic Student Employee (Unit 11) |
Two (2) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member, or three (3) days with pay if travel of over 500 miles is required. Up to three (3) additional days of unpaid bereavement leave. Maximum of five days. |
Confidential (C99) | Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
Management Personnel Plan (MPP) (M80) |
Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative. |
Excluded (E99, Police Officer Cadet only) |
Two (2) days for each death of an immediate family member. Up to three (3) additional days of unpaid bereavement leave. Maximum of five days. |
All Other Excluded (E99) | Up to five (5) days of unpaid bereavement leave. Note: must be employed at least 30 days before the leave for the death of a family member. |
