MPP Compensation
Overview
The Management Personnel Plan (MPP) as defined in Title 5 provides the chancellor and presidents flexibility to determine appropriate salaries for MPP employees based on merit and need.
Compensation Options
MPP Promotion
An MPP may be promoted to a higher administrative grade level or promoted within their
current administrative grade level based on changes in assigned job duties, scope
of responsibility, level of complexity, level of impact, and skills and experience
required for the position. An updated position description should be submitted with
MPP promotion requests.
MPP Equity Increase
CSU Presidents have the discretionary authority to approve equity increases to address
market and internal comparability issues. Equity salary increases may be authorized
only by the president and the authorization may not be delegated. Equity salary increases
are based upon appropriate documentation to support individual cases. Equity salary
increases are approved only in rare circumstances.
MPP Merit Bonus
Presidents have the discretionary authority to award a merit bonus if either of the
following occurs:
- An employee meets specific measurable standards that were spelled out at the beginning of an evaluation period that indicate if specific actions are met a merit bonus pay adjustment will be provided.
- An employee meets a specific stated objective that is both articulated in advance and is measurable
All requests for MPP compensation increases should be submitted to the appropriate
administrator(s) and to the Office of Human Resources using the MPP Action Form.
