MPP Compensation

Overview

The Management Personnel Plan (MPP) as defined in Title 5 provides the chancellor and presidents flexibility to determine appropriate salaries for MPP employees based on merit and need.

Compensation Options

MPP Promotion 
An MPP may be promoted to a higher administrative grade level or promoted within their current administrative grade level based on changes in assigned job duties, scope of responsibility, level of complexity, level of impact, and skills and experience required for the position. An updated position description should be submitted with MPP promotion requests.
 
MPP Equity Increase
CSU Presidents have the discretionary authority to approve equity increases to address market and internal comparability issues. Equity salary increases may be authorized only by the president and the authorization may not be delegated. Equity salary increases are based upon appropriate documentation to support individual cases. Equity salary increases are approved only in rare circumstances.
 
MPP Merit Bonus
Presidents have the discretionary authority to award a merit bonus if either of the following occurs: 
  • An employee meets specific measurable standards that were spelled out at the beginning of an evaluation period that indicate if specific actions are met a merit bonus pay adjustment will be provided. 
  • An employee meets a specific stated objective that is both articulated in advance and is measurable
 
 
All requests for MPP compensation increases should be submitted to the appropriate administrator(s) and to the Office of Human Resources using the MPP Action Form.
