    • Record video and audio for online courses.
    • Record feedback for students.
    • Manage student recording scenarios.
    • Manage and edit media resources.
    • Distribute media to your intended audience.
  • We Live in a Mappy World: Enhance Your Classes with GIS!

Location, location, location!  Every day, you and your students use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and tools, often without knowing it: driving directions to a friend’s house, finding the closest pizza delivery, the weather app on your phone, looking up your voting district or zip code or school district boundary.  Geo-located data can help us understand the world around us by showing us the geospatial relationships embedded in the data.  Maps and GIS activities can enhance classes from all academic disciplines – at CSUSM we have used GIS in classes from Biology, Fine Arts, Political Science, Public Health, Sociology, Marketing, Literature, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, and even Geography!  In this workshop we will cover:

    • Creating class activities for students with little or no GIS experience and how to make maps for presentation to your class, using these GIS tools:
    • ArcGIS Online – Versatile web-based GIS software for creating maps and finding GIS data.
    • Story Maps – Turn your online maps, descriptive text and multimedia into a web-based, immersive presentation with maps that the user can zoom in/out and query.
    • Business/Community Analyst Online – Create a color-coded map of data with just a few clicks.  Over 1,000 data variables included to map.  Integrated report and infographic templates, and a site analysis tool.
    • Survey 1-2-3 – A geographically-aware online survey tool.  Create web-based surveys, smartphone survey apps or data collection tools.  Data is saved and managed on ArcGIS Online.
  • Let’s Get Interactive with H5P

Are you ready to give your students a richer, more engaging learning experience? Upgrade your Cougar Course with dynamic, interactive media using the H5P “Interactive Content”. H5P allows you to create more than 16 types of tasks to provide interactive content delivery and quick knowledge checks alongside your course content within Moodle. This workshop will showcase examples of different H5P content types and demonstrate how to add H5P interactive content into your Cougar Course.

    In this workshop participants will:

    • Explore the resources in H5P
    • Identify reasons for using H5P interactive content in your course
    • Select H5P content types that fit your instructional goals
    • Access resources and start practicing

Transparent assignments lay out the skills we want students to practice, the insights we want them to come to, and the criteria for doing successful work. Based on research from the Transparency in Teaching and Learning (TILT) project at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, this session will explore simple transparent design strategies that can be easily incorporated into any teaching environment.

TRC Faculty Office Hours

The TRC is open - virtually. Our team of instructional designers and support team are available for 1:1 assistance from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Join us in Zoom (Meeting ID 296496061). When you first enter you will be placed in a Waiting Room until someone is available to assist you. Once someone is available, we are limiting the sessions to 10 minutes if there is a queue. If the help will take longer than 10 minutes, we will put you in a breakout room and another person on the team will assist you.

When we are on break, you will see a message letting you know when we will be back online.
