Nursing Student Awards

Spring 2022: ABSN 36

Please note, comments on the award winners are provided by the nominating School of Nursing faculty.

Service Award: for dedication and commitment to pre-professional and community activities.

Andrew Carlos 

Andrew went above and beyond this semester in community/public health clinical. He participated in the We All Count homeless count of 2022 in Escondido, he also volunteered outside of clinical at Interfaith Community Services in Escondido, as well as Community Resource Center in Encinitas, which strives to support victims of domestic violence. Andrew has shown a passion for public health and for working with and supporting vulnerable populations in our community. 

 

 

Outstanding Leadership Award: for leadership activities and contributions to the CSUSM School of Nursing.

Allison Hilton

Allison has been a leader among peers always exhibiting professionalism in group projects and has been active in planning her cohort's pinning ceremony.  She has strong communication skills and treats everyone with respect.

 

Spirit of Nursing Award:  for optimism, collaborative spirit, inspiration, and devotion in service to others and the CSUSM School of Nursing.

Nichole Sandoval
Nichole was very caring and compassionate with patients and families.  She was always well-prepared to care for patients and was not afraid to ask questions.  Her positive attitude and energy was appreciated by patients and hospital staff.

Outstanding Leadership Award: for leadership activities and contributions to the CSUSM School of Nursing.

 

Ali Rawlings

Ali has shown leadership in her assistance as a student tech. She is always ready and able to take on any project with very little guidance. She assists other students in the lab with compassion, understanding and mentorship.  Ali is an all around great individual who strives to always do the right thing. Her enthusiastic, positive nature will bring anyone onboard to whatever she is doing! Ali is devoted to her chosen profession and will always be there to inspire others along the way.

 

Spirit of Nursing Award:  for optimism, collaborative spirit, inspiration, and devotion in service to others and the CSUSM School of Nursing.  There are two recipients this year.  

Silvia Gil 

Silvia is always ready, willing and able to take on any project with her own initiative. She shows great caring and understanding as she assists students in the lab as our skills and SIM lab tech. She is devoted to caring for others in her job as a CNA and will continue to do so with deeper insights in her role a a nurse.  Silvia is professional, competent and has a kind and patient demeanor. She will be an amazing nurse!

Abigail Peralta

Abbie Demonstrated great compassion and patience when caring for challenging patients.  She was always sensitive to the needs of families as well as patients. Nursing staff noted that she was always seeking new learning opportunities and willing to help out wherever needed.   Abbie leads by example and always strives to the best version of herself.

 

Service Award: for dedication and commitment to pre-professional and community activities.

Giselle De Leon

Gisselle is a kind-hearted individual who gives herself to others in the form of patience, kindness, compassion, and gratitude. She will do many great things in the field of nursing. She juggled a busy schedule as one of Dr. Carney's research assistants and as the writer/producer of the monthly newsletter, which deserves recognition for her services!

 

 

Summer 2022: ABSN 37

Outstanding Leadership Award: for leadership activities and contributions to the CSUSM School of Nursing.

Leah Sheets

Leah served as SNA President and demonstrated great leadership in guiding the chapter through the school year. She served as student leader representative for a University-level initiative to plan and host a webinar for a School of Nursing donor. She was articulate and professional in representing the student body with CEHHS Dean and the donor.

Ryan Carr

Ryan is always seeking opportunities to further his learning while helping others. Ryan was able to participate as an "actor" in a community trauma course and played the part of a trauma victim. This was helpful for both the learners of the course, and also for Ryan as he was able to absorb much of the information being taught while participating as an actor. Ryan also obtained a position for preceptorship at Palomar Medical Center's ICU, where he took an active roll with patient care. Ryan is enthusiastic about learning as well as health promotion.

Samantha Cole

Samantha is very trustworthy and regularly volunteers her time to assist me in getting messages out to her peers and works as a go-between the other students and me.
