myCSUSMStudent Involvement and Representation Fee (SIRF)
On January 28, 2014, the CSU Board of Trustees adopted the Student Involvement and Representation Fee (SIRF) proposal, which went into effect in the Fall 2015 term. Submitted to the CSU by the Cal State Student Association (CSSA), the proposal aims to create a more stable, independent, and expanded statewide student association.
Through a $ 2-per-term voluntary fee assessed to each CSU student, the funding model replaced CSSA’s long-standing revenue sources, which included Associated Students membership dues, fundraising, and Chancellor’s Office grants.
Each CSU student will have the option to elect not to pay the fee for financial, political, or personal considerations each time it is assessed. Although the fee is very low, $2 per semester, we recognize that students deserve a choice in funding their student advocacy association.
The SIRF fee will not appear on a student’s account until registration is completed.
To opt-out of the SIRF fee:
In your Student Center (accessed via MyCSUSM), click the “Opt-Out of SIRF Fee” link in the “Finances” section:

Be sure to click “View All” to view all the charges on your account for a specific semester. Find the SIRF fee and click the red “OPT OUT” symbol next to the fee amount:

If the OPT OUT icon is missing, log out of your Student Center and log back in. Make sure you have the “All Terms” option selected so all fees are displayed.
If you experience any difficulty in opting out of the SIRF fee, please contact Student
