- What do I do if I need to enroll in a class that is full?
If you want to enroll in a class that is full, it is recommended that you reach out to the professor via email if it is an online course or go to the class’s first in person session. - How do I apply?

- What is the difference between a history major and a history major with single-subject
preparation for teaching?
A general history degree requires 24 lower-division units and 33 upper-division units. Students pursuing a general history degree will be able to develop critical thinking skills and be able to defend and develop historical arguments. For more information, visit the history major page.
A history major with single-subject preparation for teaching allows students who are interested in teaching to waive the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in History/Social Science. This degree requires 30 lower-division units and 46 upper-division units. It is required for students pursuing this degree to complete a portfolio of their coursework with a written reflection. - How do I minor in history?
Students pursuing a history minor must complete 21 units of historical study. 12 of those credits must be upper-division levels. Reach out to academic advising for more information and visit the history minor page.
- What can I do with my history degree?Careers for students of history are listed on the American Historical Association website.
- When should I reach out to an advisor?
Students are encouraged to reach out their assigned History faculty advisor whenever they may need it. Students can also reach out to other members of the history faculty.

- Is there financial aid available?More information about financial aid available to undergraduate students at CSUSM can be found on the Financial Aid page, and on the Scholarships page. The priority deadline for the CSUSM General Scholarship Application opens October 1st and ends February 1st. The regular application deadline is May 1st.
- Are there clubs I can join?CSUSM has a history club which is open to all students. There is also the Phi Alpha Theta national history honors society. The Phi Alpha Theta honors society sponsors activities such as guest lectures, field trips, and a yearly regional conference where undergraduate and graduate students can engage with other CSU students and present research papers.
