Department of History

Overview

The mission of the Department of History is to teach history and historical methods that equip students to think critically and independently so they can engage constructively as leaders and scholars in a diverse society and rapidly changing world. We welcome you to our department and look forward to working with you in the History major or History minor.

We offer two tracks in the History major. The first is a traditional History major, consisting entirely of history courses. The second track is designed to prepare Single Subject History-Social Science teachers. The required curriculum for this track includes Social Science courses in addition to history courses, and it also has other requirements customized for future teachers.  Information about both tracks is available by clicking on “Major Curriculum” under Resources below.

Please note that History belongs to the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences (CHABSS).
