Professional Advancement Travel

Professional Advancement Travel resources are available to CSUSM Stateside faculty, non-MPP staff, and students, to support the individual professional development that is in alignment with CSUSM's mission and vision. 

A committee composed of faculty, staff, and students will review all applications and make recommendations for funding based on criteria below. Funding levels by group may be in proportion to the number of applications received.

Travel Application Submission Deadline: September 18, 2023
  • Funding Eligibility Criteria

    Travel dates from October 2023 through May 2024

    • Travelers are eligible to submit one application.
    • CSUSM Students must be in good standing and enrolled for the Fall semester.
    • Travel to all states is permitted (state restrictions do not apply to donor-provided funds).
    • Awardees announced mid-October.
    • CSU Travel Policy and CSUSM Procedures must be followed. 
    • Travel award up to $2000 of allowable costs:
      • Awarded funds are NOT transferable 
      • CSUSM Stateside Faculty and Staff
        • Award transferred to recipients' college/department in November. 
        • Travel is processed through faculty/staff department and follow CSU Travel Policy and CSUSM Procedures. 
      • CSUSM Student
        • Award amount is granted as a reimbursement on actual incurred approved expenses.
        • To finalize reimbursement, email OGSR@csusm.edu with receipts for all expenses when you return.
  • How to Apply

    The application process opens on August 28, 2023. This electronic application package must be submitted by 11:56 pm PST on Monday, September 18, 2023. The application package will be made available to the committee for review. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

    Tips for Completing the Application

        • Describe the specific destination and time frame for the proposed travel. 
        • Funding justification of all anticipated expenses.  Be as accurate as possible and upload any supporting documentation. 
        • Include specifics about the professional development, conference, workshop activities.  Presentation at an event by traveler is preferred but not required. 
        • Description should explain how the travel will enhance the applicant's professional growth. 
        • Describe how the professional development, conference, workshop, or other travel support the university mission and vision. 
        • Signatures from applicant and their supervisor/faculty advisor is required before going to committee.
