History of the Kerri Mowen Award

Dr. Kerri Anne Mowen was an enthusiastic scientist who was devoted to student mentorship and training. Her research at The Scripps Research Institute focused on autoimmune disease with the goal of identifying novel drug targets. In this vein she co-founded Padlock Therapeutics which was acquired by Bristol Myers Squibb. Kerri worked to provide students at CSUSM with knowledge and advice on careers in STEM. She believed that all students could develop a love for STEM if science was communicated with passion and creativity. For this reason, the Kerri Mowen Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award has been created to honor her legacy of empowering students through great mentorship.

Award Information
AWARD:	Kerri Mowen Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award
Who may be nominated?	CSUSM faculty (including lecturers) who have mentored and guided a considerable number of students in research or creative activities, and/or faculty who have impacted the environment of the department, college, or university to significantly increase the number and diversity of students engaged in research and creative activities.
Who may send letter of nomination?	CSUSM faculty, academic administrators, alumni, and/or students.
What skills should the nominee possess and have evidenced?	An exceptional Faculty member who demonstrates excellent leadership, support, and inspiration in mentoring undergraduates in research experiences.
