Fitness & Wellness Internship/Volunteer Program

The purpose of the CSUSM Fitness and Wellness Internship/Volunteer Program is to give students who are interested in the Fitness and Wellness, the opportunity to develop both interpersonal and leadership skills while building relationships with Campus Recreation’s Fitness and Wellness Team. This program is designed to give interns/volunteers gain insight into the ways of the Fitness and Wellness industry and how it plans and facilitates event programming, group fitness classes, personal training, and a wide variety of other fitness and wellness topics. Through this program you will find ample opportunity to gain the skills and experience necessary to explore career and personal hobbies within fitness and wellness.
REQUIREMENTS
- CSUSM Student
- Fall, Spring, Summer Internship
- Preferred- Kines student
- Preferred- First Aid/CPR/AED - if not applicable certification will be provided for you and must stay up to date
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
As a CSUSM Fitness and Wellness Intern/Volunteer, you are committed to the following basics of the program:
- Fitness Instruction: Teach a regular stretch class, providing guidance on proper techniques and promoting flexibility and relaxation.
- Group Fitness Classes: Actively participate in 10 group fitness classes to support instructors and engage with participants
- Social Media Management: Create and post content on social media platforms to promote fitness and wellness programs and events.
- Meetings: Meetings are a fundamental component to the success of our program. Meetings create a fun and social atmosphere to discuss current Fitness and Wellness events, develop and implement specific training goals of both F+W and individual members of the team. This is also an opportunity to discuss updates, upcoming events, fitness classes etc.
- Trainings: Attend in-service meetings and training sessions to stay informed about department initiatives and develop professional skills.
- Presentations and Outreach: Prepare and deliver presentations to sport clubs on topics related to fitness and
wellness.
- Represent the Fitness and Wellness Department at job fairs, providing information about programs and opportunities to students.
- Event Support: Assist in the implementation of the RECFest, REC Powermeet, and REC Wellness Fair,
and REC Cougar Combine including setup, participant registration, and event coordination.
- Support other wellness events and activities as needed, ensuring they run smoothly and effectively.
- Overall: Serve as a role-model, demonstrate positive group behaviors and enforce program polices
while on trips
- Keep certifications up to date
- Check school email regularly and respond promptly
As a CSUSM Fitness and Wellness Intern/Volunteer, you can contribute to the following extended options:
- Mentoring: This transference of knowledge is critical to the success of CSUSM Fitness and Wellness. A true mentoring opportunity must be cultivated gently in order to expand how we work with each other to promote growth and change. You are encouraged to pursue learning and teaching opportunities to facilitate the perpetuation of knowledge
