Policies & Participant Expectations

Welcome to CSUSM Outdoor Adventures! We’re excited to have you join us in exploring the outdoors. Please review the following important policies and expectations to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Health Insurance Requirement

All participants must have health insurance to join Outdoor Adventures or Campus Recreation activities.

  • Students without personal health insurance may receive basic care through Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS).

Weather & Schedule Flexibility

Due to the unpredictable nature of outdoor recreation, trip details may change with little or no notice. This includes:

  • Weather conditions

  • Water levels

  • Trail conditions

  • Road closures

  • Wildfires

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding. If changes occur, we will promptly update trip information and notify all registered participants.

No Refund Policy

Please note our strict no refund policy:

  • Refunds will only be issued if the program cancels the trip.

  • No exceptions will be made for no-shows, late arrivals, personal conflicts, or changes in availability.

Your understanding helps us keep program costs low and logistics manageable for all participants.

Attendance & Timeliness

Participants must:

  • Arrive at the designated meeting location on time.

  • Late arrivals may be left behind and considered a no-show, with no refund eligibility.

Substance-Free Policy

To maintain a safe and respectful environment, our trips are strictly substance-free:

  • No alcohol

  • No smoking or tobacco

  • No illegal substances

Violation of this policy may result in immediate dismissal from the program.

Personal Belongings

CSUSM Outdoor Adventures is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items. Please pack and secure your belongings with care.

Code of Conduct

All participants must follow the CSUSM Student Code of Conduct to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.

“The University is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy living and learning environment for students, faculty, and staff. Each member of the campus community should choose behaviors that contribute toward this end. Students are expected to be good citizens and to engage in responsible behaviors that reflect well upon their university, to be civil to one another and to others in the campus community, and contribute positively to student and university life.”

Failure to uphold these standards may result in removal from the trip and/or ineligibility to participate in future Outdoor Adventure programs and a refferal to the Dean of Students Office.

Participant Agreement

By registering for a CSUSM Outdoor Adventures trip, you agree to abide by all policies and expectations outlined above, including:

  • Health insurance requirements
  • Our no refund policy (except in the case of program cancellation)
  • Timeliness and attendance expectations
  • Adherence to the CSUSM Student Code of Conduct
  • Substance-free environment standards
  • Personal responsibility for belongings and conduct
