Frequently Asked Questions

• Can I enroll in multiple courses at the same time?
  Yes, you are welcome to enroll in multiple construction courses simultaneously if your schedule allows. Be mindful of the workload and course start dates for paced classes.
• Do I need to take the courses in a specific order?
  Most construction classes can be taken in any sequence you prefer. You have the flexibility to start with any course that interests you. However, we recommend following the suggested sequence in numerical order to maximize your learning outcomes.
• What is the difference between self-paced and paced classes?

  Self-paced classes can be started at any time and can be completed as slowly or as quickly as you like, as long as you finish within 10 weeks. This is a completely independent study option with no interaction from other students.

  Paced classes have weekly due dates built into the course structure. You will have 8 days to complete each lesson before moving on to the next module. Interacting and getting support from the instructor and other students is available through the discussion forums. 

  Both types of courses are online and can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To find out whether a class or self-paced or paced, read the course description. 

• How long is each class?
  Each class is 10 weeks long. Seminars are 6 weeks in duration.
• What time do classes meet?
  There are no set class times. The classroom is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can complete coursework at any time that fits your schedule.
• Who are the Instructors?
  Instructors are experienced construction professionals who bring decades of field and estimating experience to their teaching. Each instructor holds advanced credentials in construction management, engineering, architecture or business.
• Why should I pursue a certificate with CSUSM?
  Through its partnership with Construction Experts Inc., CSUSM delivers practical training that fits the schedules of working professionals while maintaining strong academic quality. With accessible online courses and career-focused curriculum, CSUSM gives students an industry-aligned learning experience and provides a CSUSM Extended Learning certificate for each course successfully completed. Additionally, CSUSM offers open registration for self-paced classes, and includes a textbook in the cost per course.
• Will I receive a certificate for every construction course I complete?
  You will be able to print a Certificate of Completion from your online classroom at the conclusion of each course. You need to wait until your final assignment is graded before you print your certificate. Keep in mind that online classroom access will end 7 days after the last week of class.
• How do I register for construction courses?
  To register for construction classes, click the “Register” button on this page. On the subsequent Virtual Construction Education checkout page, select the courses you wish to take. You will need to enter personal contact information and submit payment for selected courses. After submitting the registration form, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further instructions.
• How do I pay for my selected construction courses?
  Payment is made securely online during the registration process using credit cards or PayPal. You must complete payment to finalize your enrollment.
• How do I access the online classroom after I register?
  After enrollment and payment, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions for logging in to our online learning portal.
• What are the technical requirements for the online construction classes?

  You’ll need the following to complete online construction courses: 

  • A desktop computer or laptop with stable access to the internet
  • Latest version internet browser
  • Ability to send and receive email and create basic documents
  • A PDF reader, such as Adobe Acrobat
