Academic Success Center Strategic Plan (2018-2023)

Mission 

The Academic Success Center (ASC) supports students in discovering new ways of independent and collaborative learning.  The ASC contributes to student academic success by facilitating faculty-staff partnerships that design, implement, and assess innovative, data-informed, evidence-based academic programming and support that ensures educational equity.  This programming complements classroom learning and addresses diverse student academic needs.     

Guiding Principles 

  • Students expand their academic confidence and agency when supported by a student-oriented, welcoming, and collaborative environment.  
  • Students best develop critical thinking skills, persist in their education, and experience academic success when supported by effective academic programming.  
  • Accessible, data-informed, evidence-based programming and resources, developed by faculty and staff, are crucial to transformative learning.  

Strategic Objective #1 

Create LTS Advisory Council, with an ASC Sub-Committee 

Goals 

AThe OUGS Dean, Senior Co-Director of LTS (Learning and Tutoring Services), and ASC Director develop the charge for this council and establish its composition.  

B. Determine how to develop the council into a permanent and sustainable advisory group with a long-term election and rotation strategy.   

C. Once the council is established, the ASC sub-committee will work with the ASC Director to identify immediate tasks specific to the programmatic needs of the ASC. 


Strategic Objective #2 

Inform the Campus Community about the Academic Success Center 

Goals 

A. Senior Co-Director of LTS and ASC Director develop an ASC communication plan that complements the OUGS plan, including identifying audiences and communication sharing strategies.

B. Create staff trainings and timelines for all communications.

Strategic Objective #3   

Recruit Faculty and Staff Partners to Support ASC Academic Programming  

Goals 

A. Develop a recruitment plan that supports ASC goals, including focus groups  to determine how to recruit and engage students for relevant programs. Launch ASC staff hiring plan. 

B. Strategize with the Faculty Center to showcase previous, faculty-created  programs to highlight development of pilot projects. 

C. Pilot the development and delivery of 1-2 new programs/academic interventions per year as appropriate. 

D. Communicate successes to campus community.  

Strategic Objective #4  

Facilitate Growth of Academic Success Center Programs and Access to ASC Space Needs  

Goals 

A. Lead data-informed, evidence-based academic interventions to promote students’ academic success and facilitate graduation in collaboration with campus partners. 

B. ASC Director and Advisory Council develop priority criteria for ASC space and programming. Determine a set of baseline data markers for each program. 

C. ASC Director and Advisory Council develop guidelines for short-term and long-term usage of the ASC space. 

D. Facilitate growth of staff and faculty-led programming.

  1. Use the baseline markers to determine growth ofprograms, evaluate, make changes, and reset goals as needed. 
  2.  As programs grow, determine new staffing needs.

 E.   Facilitate growth of Supplemental Instruction.

F. Facilitate Pop-Up Tutoring pilot. 

G. Facilitate Study Buddy pilot.

Strategic Objective #5 

Institutionalize the ASC by 2023 

Goals 

A. Document annual budget progress towards institutionalization of the ASC. Track progress towards 100% institutionalization.

B. Calculate annual DFW and unit-load metrics. Calculate FTES costs/savings. 

C. Secure additional grants and awards to support ASC staffing and academic success programming.
