Employment and Representation
Investing in Our Students
Associated Students, Inc. of Cal State San Marcos offers a variety of opportunities to develop your professional experiences. ASI is committed to offering positions that enhance the co-curricular model, which is focused on offering a transformative education experience beyond the classroom. We invest on the personal and professional development of all of our ASI students to prepare them to serve, engage, empower their fellow peers.
ASI Retreats
All ASI student employees, Board of Directors Members, and professional staff attend two "all team" retreats each academic year. One takes place in August and the other in January. During these 2-3 day trainings, the teams attend workshops and sessions where they learn more about ASI, CSUSM, their leadership style, diversity and inclusion, campus priorities and resources, trends in higher education, and much more!
Executive Officers On-Boarding Program
Every summer, the ASI Executive Officers are required to participate in an intensive on-boarding and training workshops to acquire the fundamentals, related details and scope of their leadership roles. The program is approximately 55 hours and the goal is to complete all training no later than the end of July so that the officers can focus solely on their projects and responsibilities for the remainder of the summer. While some sessions are lead by ASI professional staff, most are lead by campus partners who volunteer countless hours to commit to the success of our student leaders.
LEAP Program
The LEAP (Leadership, Ethics, Awareness, Professionalism) is a program is designed for ASI student employees, representatives, and volunteers to continue their development in professionalism and leadership through a series of workshops. These workshops are facilitated by staff & faculty at CSUSM as well as professionals in the surrounding community, who become resources for our students as they prepare for their journey beyond graduation.
ASI Teams
To encourage participation and healthy competition, our ASI teams provide an opportunity for students to build connections with students outside of their specific entities, earn points for attendance and team bonding, and win prizes! Each year our ASI Retreat work group picks a theme for our ASI Retreats. This theme is carried over into our ASI Teams.
Employee Evaluations
In ASI, our LEAP program is connected to our student evaluation process, giving students additional opportunities for growth and development. Our process allows the students to evaluate themselves through the use of guided questions and a matrix/rubric that is centered around our LEAP learning outcomes.
ASI Banquet
At the end of the Spring semester the ASI team comes together to reflect on the past year, celebrate successes, and recognize graduating seniors. ASI also invites campus partners who have volunteered their time to the success of ASI throughout the academic year.
