Course Descriptions

Nonprofit Management Principles and Practices

This overview course will cover a  broad range of topics which will set the foundation for the overall program.  Topics will include the history, current and future state of the sector, marketing and communications, corporate culture & strategic thinking, human resource development, philanthropic fundraising and general management approaches.

Legal & Ethical Issues and Risk Management

This course will focus on the increasing legal, regulatory, insurance, and accountability demands increasingly impacting nonprofit organizational functioning and compliance. Ethical issues and expectations of the nonprofit sector will also discussed.

Financial, MIS and Technology Management

This course will provide an overview of the systems necessary to support a successful nonprofit organization such as: financial knowledge,  management information systems and data analytics, and use of new technological and media tools to reach clients, supporters and volunteers.

Executive Leadership and Board Governance

This course will emphasize the need for new and dynamic leadership and governance approaches in the nonprofit sector.  The concept of leading change will also be explored along with how to support organizational and new program development, growth and sustainability.  The importance of embracing social entrepreneurship concepts and tactics to remain relevant and solvent will be introduced.

Capstone Project

Participans will select an issue that their agency is currently facing and develop an actiop plan to work trowards a solution.
