CSUSM’s 12-week intensive certification exam prep program prepares you to sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMP certification is a proven way to enhance your résumé, elevate your career potential and boost your earnings.

  • Exam preparation

    This program meets the 35-hour project management education requirement to sit for the PMP exam and provides knowledge and tools to prepare you for test day

  • Designed for experienced project managers

    Course materials are designed for those with a minimum of three years of project management experience who are preparing to take their PMP certification exam

    You will be able to take what you learn in the class and immediately apply it to your current work projects

    Course sessions include a combination of lectures, discussions, quizzes and projects, and you will have access to online study tools for a full year

Program Details


    This certification prep course is designed primarily for:

    • Individuals seeking PMP certification
    • Experienced project managers who are seeking advancement or more information

    There are no admission requirements to take this program; however, to be eligible to sit for the PMI’s PMP exam, you need to meet all education and experience prerequisites in one of the following two categories:

    Category General Education Project Management Experience Project Management Education

    Category A

    Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate degree or the global equivalent)

    Minimum of five years non-overlapping project management experience with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects

    35 hours of project management education

    Category B

    Four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent)

    Minimum of three years non-overlapping project management experience with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects

    35 hours of project management education

    Sandy Friedman

    Sanford (Sandy) Friedman is Manager of the Project Management Office at CGI and an instructor at California State University San Marcos, teaching courses in Project Management and in the Operations Resource Management Certificate Program. Sandy has over thirty-five years of industry experience in management, project management, consulting, teaching, and systems development in aerospace and defense, biomedical, pharmaceutical, health care, government, as well as manufacturing, logistics and distribution industries. Sandy has managed Enterprise Resource Management implementations including SAP, Exact Macola, and Syspro, across a wide variety of industries, and has managed the development and implementation of manufacturing, configuration management, financial, supply chain management, biotech/pharmaceutical, and Electronic Health Record systems. 

    Sandy is a frequent lecturer for PMI and APICS/ASCM, has been a featured speaker at several conferences and symposia, and has taught at San Diego State University, UC San Diego, California State University, San Marcos, Fullerton, Dominguez Hills, and at USC. Sandy holds a BS from UCLA, an MS from the University of Iowa, an MBA from Boston University, and holds CFPIM, CIRM, PMP, and ITIL certifications.

    Sandy has developed and managed various training programs and courses across a variety of industries affording students with greater business understanding and new management skills. As a professional educator, he has designed, directed, and delivered educational and certification programs for various academic and industrial settings.

    What are the course materials?

    Also included in your course fee is the most current version of the PMBOK Guide which is the industry standard in project management.

    Can I earn CEUs with this program?

    Yes, this program is eligible for up to 3.5 CEUs.

    Can I use my employer’s tuition reimbursement for this program?

    Yes, this program will accept employer’s tuition reimbursement funds.

    Does this program qualify for any SHRM recertification PDCs?

    Yes, this program is valid for 35 PDCs for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
