CSUSM’s new EngiBeering® program explores the science, engineering and art behind brewing craft beer. You’ll learn about what goes into making beer, how to evaluate beer by identifying aromas, flavors and quality (to prepare you to judge at beer competitions), recipe development, brewing process and production and much more. The program was developed with input from local brewers and is designed for current employees of breweries, craft enthusiasts and individuals that want to work in the craft beer industry.
You’ll be learning from local brewery owners and experts in the industry, including Paul Sangster, Co-Founder and Brewmaster at Rip Current Brewing, 2018 President of the San Diego Brewers Guild and award-winning homebrewer.
Choose your path: take just a few courses to learn the basics, or complete one or both certificates of study including Basic EngiBeering® and Advanced Brewing Science
Internship: as part of this program you will complete an internship and gain real experience at a local brewery
Stay local: courses offered in San Marcos with site visits to local breweries
Learn from the best: professors are currently working in the beer industry
Topics include: history of craft beer, brewing processes, evaluating flavors and beer quality, recipe development, entrepreneurship and marketing, brewing materials and more
