Introduction

Emily Kim is an Assistant Professor of Finance at California State University San Marcos, where she began her academic appointment in 2024. She completed her Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Kansas, after earning a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of Georgia and a dual Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Accounting and Technology Management from the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea.

Emily’s research focuses on empirical corporate finance with particular interests in information dissemination, corporate innovation, initial public offerings, and labor economics. Her academic research has explored topics such as the impact of IPO marketing breadth on IPO outcomes, the innovation spillovers from high-skilled labor shocks, and the relationship between the inflow of highly skilled immigrants and local housing prices. She currently teaches investment courses at CSUSM — Investment Analysis and Advanced Investment Analysis — and enjoys interacting with students in the classroom.
