myCSUSMHonoring Faculty Retirements
We are entering the middle of the summer break and faculty are busy teaching summer courses and conducting top tier research. CoBA faculty are presenting papers in the summer’s top academic conferences like those held by the Academy of Management and American Marketing Association. Faculty research builds the foundation of new knowledge that informs the classroom and keeps CoBA courses on the leading edge.
Celebrating Years of Service
Dr. Vassilis Dalakas
We also say goodbye to Professor of Marketing Dr. Vassilis Dalakas who joined CoBA in 2008. As a member of the marketing department and college, Dr. Dalakas had great influence in moving the department and college forward, helping build a foundation for their future success. Dr. Dalakas excelled at teaching marketing course, especially sports marketing, winning multiple student and professional academic teaching awards. Dr. Dalakas specializes in marketing and sports and entertainment research, and his body of work has been cited over 2,100 times. This reflects his research expertise and the value of his work to the Academy; a feat often associated with faculty at research-one (R1) institutions. Dr. Dalakas is a model for what it means to be a teacher-scholar in higher education.

Dr. Richard Hwang
Faculty are at the core of what we do and as we close out the previous academic year, we say goodbye to several faculty. Dr. Richard Hwang steps away after 33 years as an Accounting professor. During his time, Dr. Hwang played an integral role in the establishment and development of the Accounting BSBA option, the college, and CSUSM. Over his career, Dr. Hwang honed an extensive teaching portfolio, became an internationally recognized researcher, and engaged in service activities at all levels of the University and accounting academe. As Dr. Alan Styles stated, “Richard served on the committee that hired me, has been a mentor, has shaped the college, demanded much of his students, but most importantly, he has been a friend.”
Dr. Wenyuh Tsay
Dr. Wenyuh Tsay is retiring after 28 years as a finance associate professor. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Tsay played an integral role in shaping the Finance option of the BSBA degree, leaving a lasting impact on both the program and the university.
