The course curriculum is diverse and well-rounded designed to develop and enhance essential workplace skills, increase job effectiveness, and programs to help balance your personal and professional life.

Focus Areas

Training opportunities are part of a focused curriculum organized into focus areas. The focus areas consist of:

Professional Development Programs:

OHR partners with campus departments and external expert trainers to build a robust professional and personal development program that will engage, inspire, and equip you to continue to grow in your current role and help with career advancement. In addition, Human Resources' Skillsoft e-learning programs gives all CSUSM employees access to thousands of online courses, books and vidoes free of charge, including various industry certification study guides.

Eligible CSUSM employees may also be eligible for the CSU Fee Waiver (or tuition assistance) program. This benefits provides employees the ability to enroll in courses at any CSU campus and have fees waived or reduced. Fee waiver applies to CSU general fund courses only. Courses in self-support programs (e.g. Extended Learning) may not be taken through fee waiver. Learn more about fee waiver.

Compliance Training:

Designated Faculty, Staff, and MPP Employees may be required to complete various compliance and required training based on their role with the University. Based on your requirements, automated assignment emails and reminders will be sent from the Skillport Learning Management System with information about the required course and the due date for completing the training.

Leadership Development Programs:

OHR offers a series of seminars and workshops designed specifically for those in supervisory and managerial positions. New supervisors are encouraged to start with the required trainings and follow up with the suggested courses. For more experienced supervisors and managers, there are many courses focusing on areas such as interpersonal competencies, organizational development, and performance management.

Work Life/Balance:

Most of us manage our lives successfully. There are times, however, when personal problems interfere with relationships, job performance, and physical health. Everyone can benefit from help when these difficulties arise. OHR offers a series of work/life balance seminars focused on nutrition, exercise and financial well-being.
