CSUSM staff, faculty, and students have access to the Enterprise version of Microsoft Copilot, powered by GPT 5, as part of our Microsoft licensing.

Copilot can help you:

  • search the web
  • generate creative content such as narratives, poems, etc.
  • generate business and education content such as reports, emails, assignment prompts, etc.
  • generate images
  • summarize or analyze text
  • analyze images
  • transform documents (e.g. excel spreadsheet to a report)
  • create custom Copilot Agents (chatbots) for specific purposes
  • help you use Microsoft tools by providing/creating guides

CSUSM also has a number of limited Copilot Premium licenses. This additional license allows users to:

  • use Copilot within Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • use Copilot to create real-time meeting notes, tasks, and follow ups

 

Getting started with Microsoft Copilot

  1. Open Copilot Chat and sign in with your CSUSM credentials or select the Copilot icon on the sidebar in your Microsoft Edge browser. Copilot can also be accessed within Word, Powerpoint, and other Microsoft apps. You can also download the Copilot app
  2. Type your prompt into the chat window to interact with Copilot

Keeping Your Content Private

When you use your CSUSM credentials to sign in to Microsoft Copilot, you ensure that any content you provide remains private and is not used by Microsoft or any other vendor.
