The Importance of Multifactor Authentication

For week 1 of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in 2026, we are highlighting the importance of Multifactor Authentication and the role it plays in protecting your accounts and information.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication? 

Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, is a security measure that requires users to verify their identity using multiple forms of authentication, such as something you know (a password) something you have (a mobile device or security key), or something you are (fingerprint).

Why MFA Matters

Passwords alone are no longer enough to protect accounts. Strong passwords can be compromised through phishing, data breaches, or password reuse. MFA adds an extra layer of protection beyond passwords and significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized account access by requiring an additional verification step. By utilizing MFA, users can help protect sensitive information, reduce the risk of account compromise, and create a more secure digital environment for everyone.
