Microsoft in Cougar Courses Outage

The Microsoft Education tool in Cougar Courses (Canvas) is experiencing an issue. You and your students may see a message that says "Course access pending. You haven’t accepted the course invitation yet. Accept it to be added to the roster and unlock access." There is nothing that can be done on your end to resolve this. Microsoft's engineers are working on a fix. In the meantime if you are using Microsoft Education to share files or videos with your students and need them to access ASAP, please add your content using one of the alternate methods below.

Check the status of the outage on the CSUSM Status page.

For Files

Upload directly to Canvas

For files like Word, Excel, PDF, etc., please upload the file directly to Canvas:

For Videos

Videos shorter than 20 min

For videos shorter than 20 minutes, you can upload to Canvas Media via a page. You cannot upload directly to modules, you must create a page in your module and add it to that page.

  1. If you do not already have a page, add one to a module using this help guide.
  2. Follow this help guide to upload and embed your video file on the page.
  3. Finally, generate captions for your video by using this help guide.

Videos longer than 20 min

Videos longer than 20 minutes are too large to upload directly to Canvas.

  1. Follow this help guide to go to the file in your OneDrive, set the sharing permissions, and copy the link.
  2. Then go to Canvas and add the link via external URL
