New Versions of Microsoft Teams and Outlook
Starting January 2024, new versions of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook (desktop app) are being introduced.
Currently you can continue to use the classic Teams and Outlook desktop app, but later this year classic apps will be retired.
New Microsoft Teams
Microsoft is introducing a new faster, more flexible Microsoft Teams app rebuilt from the ground up. This new app will also be the foundation for next-generation AI experiences, including Microsoft's Copilot for Teams.
New Teams features
- Faster and more efficient app: Up to two times faster and consumes up to 50% less memory than classic Teams.
- Simplified and streamlined user experience: New Teams allows you to personalize your app experience, stay on top of your notifications, and get more done in fewer clicks. It also supports keyboard shortcuts, screen readers, and color sensitivity for more inclusive and accessible use.
- Next-generation AI experiences: New Teams is the foundation for Microsoft Copilot, an AI assistant that helps you stay on top of your tasks, run more effective meetings, and bring everything together in one place. Copilot can summarize conversations, suggest action items, and find relevant information from various sources.
- Seamless cross-tenant collaboration: New Teams enables easier collaboration with users from other institutions and organizations.
