Week 3: Off-Campus Access

Introduction

An unfortunate reality of the increasing prevalence of technology in our lives is that our teachers and employers expect that we will do our homework.  This can sometimes be difficult if you need something that is only available on campus.  This week for National Cybersecurity Month, we want to inform you about the software and tools available to all members of the CSUSM community that facilitate accessing campus resources from home.

CougarApps

CougarApps is a software application that provides access to a rich set of software applications previously only offered on campus computers. CougarApps gives you the opportunity to access campus applications and your files from anywhere at anytime.

CougarApps can be accessed by downloading the Citrix client, or by using the web app by visiting https://cougarapps.csusm.edu.

Many different applications are available via CougarApps!  For example:

  • Minitab - Minitab provides the tools you need to analyze data and find meaningful solutions
  • MatlabWhether you’re analyzing data, developing algorithms, or creating models, MATLAB is designed for the way you think and the work you do.
  • SPSSThe IBM SPSS® software platform offers advanced statistical analysis, a vast library of machine-learning algorithms, text analysis, open-source extensibility, integration with big data and seamless deployment into applications.

In addition, Faculty & Staff can use the Microsoft Remote Desktop application via CougarApps to remotely access computer systems here on campus.

For detailed instructions on how to use CougarApps visit the CougarApps Helpdesk page.

Adobe Creative Suite

CSUSM provides currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff with free Adobe software for their campus computers and their home computers. Adobe Creative Cloud includes a variety of creative applications for both desktop and mobile usage. Whether looking to edit images with Photoshop or add animations using Character Animator, the software allows your creativity to shine.

Adobe Creative Suite can be installed on Windows & Mac OS desktops and laptops, as well as iOS and Android devices.

Office365

We are happy to offer all CSUSM students, faculty and staff Microsoft Office.  Current students, faculty and staff are able to use Office 365 from the web, or are able to download a copy of the Microsoft Office suite of applications by logging in to office365.csusm.edu.
